The Tamil investigation thriller film “Por Thozhil,” starring Sarath Kumar, Ashok Selvan, and Nikhila Vimal, was released in theaters last month. Directed by Vignesh Raja, this low-budget film turned out to be an unexpected hit in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other regions. Despite the passing weeks, the film continues to run successfully in theaters.
Recently, a celebration was held in Chennai to mark the film’s success. During the event, the film’s producer announced that it had earned over 50 crores in a short period of time. Additionally, the film’s lead actor, Sarath Kumar, made a special request to theater owners and distributors present at the event. He requested that the film continue to be screened in theaters for a minimum of 100 days, even after its release on an over-the-top (OTT) platform.
Typically, films are made available for download on OTT platforms 28 days after their theatrical release. “Por Thozhi” had already been sold to an OTT platform, but reports suggest that the OTT release was postponed due to the film’s strong performance in theaters. The OTT platform, on which the film is set to be released, accepted the producer’s demand to extend the theatrical run. The film was initially supposed to release on OTT last week. The OTT rights for “Por Prabham” have been acquired by SonyLIV. However, it is now expected that the film will not be released on the platform this month. Instead, “Por Prabham” will be one of SonyLIV’s major releases in the month of August.
