Gold was one of the films that got the most pre-release hype in Malayalam this year. The reason for this hype was that director Alphonse Putra is preparing the film seven years after the release of the superhit film Premam. Also, Prithviraj and Nayanthara‘s first film was directed by Alphonse. But after its release, the film received negative word-of-mouth publicity. Gold will be available through Amazon Prime Video, a prominent platform. The release is ahead of the New Year. The film will start streaming on December 29. The film, which was supposed to be an Onam release, hit the theaters on December 1 as post-production was not completed. Prithviraj had recently said that even though the film did not work in theaters, Gold made a profit for them. The film was produced by Listin Stephen and Prithviraj under the banners Magic Frames and Prithviraj Productions.
Apart from Prithviraj and Nayanthara, Gold was a film with a large cast.
