Those who were fortunate enough to see Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ Narasimham in theatres in 2000 will recall the euphoria surrounding the film, not only in Kerala theatres but also in countries outside India where the film was released. It now appears that the film’s creators are preparing to re-release the film in order to ensure that this generation of moviegoers gets to experience all of that as well.

Shaji Kailas confirmed the movie’s 4K version in a recent interview while promoting his latest film Kaapa.“It was remastered in 4K a year ago,” he revealed. “The initial plan was to release it through OTT platforms like Netflix during the pandemic but then, they felt it was better to release it in theatres as the younger generation will also get to experience the film on the big screen.”

The filmmaker noted that the film has been released for over two decades and that this generation of viewers has only seen it on television. In most TVs, you have stereo sound, but when you have Dolby surround and to experience the background, the BGM, and the effects, you have to watch it in theatres mentioned the director in an interview.

The re-release of Narasimham will be heavily influenced by the response to Bhadran’s Spadikam 4K version, which is set to hit theatres again on February 9, 2023. For the past few years, the filmmaker has been hard at work remastering the 1995 release and re-releasing the 4K version of the film with Dolby Atmos surround sound. Mohanlal played Poovalli Induchoodan in Narasimham, which also featured Mammootty in a cameo and he portrayed Aadu Thoma in Spadikam.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ latest collaboration, Alone, a lockdown thriller, is set to be released in theatres on January 26, 2023. The director is currently working on a horror thriller called Hunt, which stars Bhavana, Anu Mohan, and G Chandunath.
