Karthi is currently enjoying the tremendous success of his most recent film, Ponniyin Selvan. The renowned director Mani Ratnam’s magnum work has already established itself as one of the Tamil cinema industry’s all-time greatest triumphs. In the film, Karthi played the beloved role of Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, and he has been praised for his outstanding performance. The versatile actor is currently preparing for the release of Sardar, his upcoming film. Karthi discussed making his directorial debut in a recent Sardar promotional interview.
Karthi admitted that he only had a concept in his head when asked about his direction ambitions. But he continued, “I don’t have any firm intentions right now.” However, when asked who he would like to cast in his feature film debut, Karthi immediately mentioned his older brother Suriya. The star added in jest that nobody else would ask him out. Karthi reflected on how he began his career as an assistant director for Mani Ratnam’s movie Aayutha Ezhuthu, which had Suriya in one of the key roles.
Karthi wishes to make his debut as a director with a Suriya starrer. “Who else will trust me? He held my hand and bought me into this industry. I wish to make a film with him. He is someone who easily transforms into a character and gives it everything. Ever since I became an assistant director, I wanted to direct Anna in a film. It is also very easy to work with him because he understands me so well. Even when I get confused over something, he understands it in an instant,” said Karthi.
Karthi’s next Sardar is a spy thriller movie. The eagerly anticipated movie is set to release in theatres on Friday, October 21. His next appearance will be in the eagerly awaited Ponniyin Selvan sequel, which is set to open in theatres in the summer of 2023. For Kaithi 2, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed film Kaithi, Karthi also intends to rejoin hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.
