‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ is a benevolent film with honest goals at its core, yet someplace along the line, the message gets lost, and the film neglects to have an effect.

Manvinder Munjal otherwise known as Manu (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a commonplace Punjabi chap from a working-class business family in Chandigarh. He is a bodybuilder and gym trainer.

Manu’s whole life rotates around bodybuilding, his point being to win the ‘Best Gabru of Chandigarh’ title, which has always been evading him, making him play second fiddle to Sandy, owner of another gym. His family doesn’t support him and his objectives and continues to compel him to get married.

Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor), a stunning-to-look-at instructor, joins his exercise center to take Zumba classes, and the unavoidable occurs. The actual fascination between the two is solid, and soon, the couple becomes familiar with one another. As their relationship advances, Maanvi drops a stunner and is blamed for double-dealing and hiding realities. An irritated Manu parts ways with her.

How he conquers the social hindrances imbued in his mind and permits his adoration for her to dominate, and spurred by her, wins the desired title, shapes the essence of the film. On the presentation front, while Ayushmann Khurrana looks each inch the ‘gabru’ fellow from Chandigarh, with ‘dolle-sholle’, et al, a circle of companions close behind continually cruising all over in an open jeep, someplace, he needs conviction and just strolls through his job. Except in the competition and gym scenes, where he gets to show off his well-sculpted body, he is a tad disappointing.

Vaani Kapoor’s Maanvi develops on you as her inward disturbance and past are uncovered, and the crowd interfaces with her aggravation. Different entertainers, including Kanwaljit Singh, who plays Maanvi’s dad, and Anjan Shrivastav as Manu’s granddad, are wasted and neglect to wow you with their exhibitions. Manu’s loud and boisterous sisters overact and are anything but humorous.

Made in a romantic comedy format, the film engages in parts. The first half neglects to draw in you as you hang tight for that defining moment, which shows a tad too late and is a bit of a damp squib. The delicate message, which the film endeavors to pass on, isn’t taken care of also as it might have been. Before the end, it nearly feels as though with every one of them if with all the boxes having been ticked by the director, he is in a hurry to wrap up the film with an ‘all’s well that ends well’ stamp.Chandigarh-Kare-Aashiqui-1 9

The dialogues are packed with the nearby Punjabi flavor. The music is not a huge deal, and it is just ‘Mainu maafi de maafi’ that is well-picturised and resonant. The film boasts of good production values, and Chandigarh at various times of the day or night is captured with honesty.

Generally speaking, the ‘Aashiqui’ flavor in ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ overwhelms, and the message assumes a lower priority, nearly getting lost.
