Enhanced Privacy Features In Meta’s Latest WhatsApp Update Unveiling New Security Protocols For Chat Communication

In a commitment to bolster privacy features, Meta has revealed ‘Chatlock,’ a significant enhancement aiming to secure WhatsApp chats. According to recent reports, the company is in the testing phase for a novel secret code system that will empower users to set a personalized password for their protected chat folder. This revolutionary feature is expected to soon be available in the WhatsApp beta version. As disclosed by Wabetinfo, the secret code functionality is anticipated to be rolled out to all WhatsApp users in the near future. This security measure is designed to provide an additional layer of protection for sensitive conversations. Users will input the secret code to gain access to their secured chats through the app’s search bar.

Configuring a secret code not only enhances privacy but also allows users to lock chats across companion devices. WhatsApp recommends using a word or a simple emoji for quick and convenient access. Users retain the flexibility to modify or remove the secret code as needed. Back in May, WhatsApp had introduced the Chat Lock feature, enabling users on both Android and iOS to secure their chats using fingerprint, FaceLock, or passcodes. This feature effectively moves locked chat threads to a designated folder, ensuring the privacy of conversations. Furthermore, the app prompts the user to clear the chat if an attempt to access the user’s phone is made without permission, providing a clear window into any unauthorized usage. The Lock Chat feature also prevents automatic downloads of photos and videos sent in a locked chat to the phone’s gallery, further fortifying user privacy and control over their data.
