Renowned actress Asha Parekh has expressed her critique of the crew behind the film ‘The Kashmir Files.’ Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the movie was released in 2022 and has achieved remarkable success, grossing approximately Rs 400 crores at the global box office. The film portrays the harrowing true story of Kashmiri Pandits and the events they endured. When asked about her opinion on the controversial films ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story,’ the veteran actress questioned the societal benefits derived from such movies. Asha Parekh clarified that she had not watched these films and refrained from commenting on controversies surrounding them. She stated that those interested in viewing such movies were welcome to do so. Many have viewed ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which has garnered substantial revenue, reaching up to 400 crores for the film’s producer.
However, Asha Parekh raised a thought-provoking question about the allocation of funds, pointing out the ongoing hardships faced by the people of Jammu, particularly regarding water and electricity shortages. She emphasized that the film’s makers could have contributed a significant portion of their earnings, proposing a minimum of Rs 50 crores to support the Kashmiri Hindus in need. This perspective highlights the actress’s concerns about the film’s impact and the broader societal responsibilities that could be addressed through such commercial successes.
