87-year-old Malayalam singer Edava Basheer dies while performing on stage

Malayalam singer Edava Basheer died while performing at a show on Saturday night. While playing out the melody ‘Maana Ho Tum Beyhadh Haseen…’ by popular Indian singer KJ Yesudas from the Hindi film Toote Toys, released in 1978, he fell in front of an audience. He was supposedly performing at the Golden Jubilee festivities of the Blue Diamonds Orchestra in Kerala.

Basheer fell on the stage while he was singing a song and when individuals saw it. While he was singing the song, he suddenly fell over while trying to sit down on the stage. The mike dropped from his hand and people nearby began to rush onto the stage. They took him to the hospital however he was found dead prior to being taken to the hospital.

Kerala Chief Minister, Playback singer K S Chithra and others paid accolades to the late singer. Taking to Twitter, the singer expressed, “Tributes to singer Edawa Basheerka. I wish the soul eternal peace “.

The vocalist was in the spotlight since he was in school for his singing skills. He was notable for his music and stowed a few awards and prizes. The playback singer was born in Thiruvananthapuram and had sung a few super-hit film melodies. Basheer’s very first tune as a playback vocalist was for the film Raghu Vamsham.

The singer shot into prominence during his school days winning several prizes for his music. Basheer formed a music troupe ‘Sangeethalaya’ at Varkala in the Thiruvananthapuram district. It was inaugurated by Malayalam’s most reputed singer, K.J. Yesudas.
