Singer Vanijayaram Passed Away

Popular singer Vanijayaram passed away. He was 77 years old. He collapsed and died at his residence in Chennai. Many songs have been sung in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and Hindi languages. She won the National Film Award for Best Female Singer three times. Studied classical Hindustani music with Kumar Gandharva. 

Born in 1945 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The original name was Kalaivani. The first song she sang in Malayalam was the song Sourayuthil Vitarinoru from the film Syaam. She received the Padma award last week.

In 1971, she became famous with the song ‘Bole Re Papi’ in the film ‘Guddi’, composed by Vasanth Desai. He won five awards for the song in Guddi. She sang the songs of Chitragupta and Naushad and sang a duet with Asha Bhosle in the film ‘Pakeesa’. Madan Mohan, O.P. Nayyar, RD Burman, Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Jaydev, and others have also given voice to the music.
