Earlier, Vijay Sethupathi’s refusal to play the lead role with actress Kriti Shetty was much debated. Now Vijay Sethupathi himself has spoken openly about this issue. In an interview with a Tamil YouTube channel ahead of the release of his new film Maharaja, Vijay clarified his stand.
Vijay Sethupathi said that the age difference was the reason why he was not ready to romance Kriti Shetty on-screen. “DSP turned down the offer to pair up with Kriti in the film. I acted as Kriti’s father in the Telugu film Uppanna. DSP makers didn’t know that. There is a scene in Uppanna where Kriti was nervous while we were shooting. I asked Kriti to consider me as her real father while shooting You are a little older than my son” – said Vijay Sethupathi.
Kriti was considered as the DSP heroine. But before that, Vijay Sethupathi acted as Kriti’s father in Buchi Babu Sana’s Telugu film Uppanna. With this, Vijay Sethupathi refused to romance Kriti Shetty on-screen. Maharaja is Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th film. It is clear from the trailer that the film is a different type of thriller.
