In the late hours of Monday, there was a significant outage affecting Google search and other services. Thousands of customers worldwide were having problems with Google Search as well as other services including YouTube, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google Photos, and more, according to outage tracker Downdetector. The services now appear to be functioning normal again.

Google’s own app status dashboard indicates that no downtime appears to be present. The early hours of Tuesday, August 9, according to Downdetector, the outage complaints have decreased. All Google services, including search, YouTube, Google Maps, Drive, Google Photos, and more, passed our test and were operational since morning.

More than 40,000 individuals had previously reported outages with Google’s search engine, according to Downdetector. Twitter was used by users to report issues with Google’s services. The hashtag #googledown was trending on the platform. The majority of users had a 500 error, which denotes a server issue. A few users also saw a message that read “We are sorry but it appears that there has been an internal server error while processing your request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the issue. Please try again later.”  For the time being, most Indian consumers’ access to Google services seems to have been restored.

Google also acknowledged the issue and said that this has happened due to a “software update issue” and the services are now up and running. “We’re aware of a software update issue that briefly affected the availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked to quickly address the issue and our services are now back online,” Google said in a statement.
