According to a memo sent internally by CEO Sundar Pichai and acquired by The Washington Post, Google has informed staff that the pace of recruiting will be slowed for the rest of the year. In spite of the fact that the firm has employed thousands of workers this year, Mr. Pichai stated in his email that it will now prioritize “engineering, technical and other important roles,” according to the Post’s article. Google has historically remained unaffected by downturns in the technology industry’s economy. But now there is a commotion due to Mr. Pichai’s memo.

As per the post, the Google CEO said in his email, “We need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus and more hunger than we’ve shown on sunnier days.” What this really means is that Google will be “pausing development and re-deploying resources to higher priority areas”, according to the email. Google is not the only company that’s reduced hiring. Uber and Meta to have sent similar memos to their employees, warning them about “serious times” and the need to cut costs.

The publication added that while Twitter, Netflix, and GameStop decided to lay off workers, Snap and Spotify revealed plans to slow hiring. Both large tech enterprises and start-ups are worried about a potential recession as a result of the unstable economic climate. Investors have also cautioned these corporations to get ready for more challenging times ahead.

In its most recent quarterly report, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, stated that it had 160,000 employees.
