The compact SUV segment has become the most popular segment in the automotive market in the country. This range of vehicles is more spacious and powerful. At less than four meters long, these sub-SUVs are less expensive than the SUV models, but offer almost all of its features. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue have long been the leaders in the sub-SUV segment in the Indian market. Third was Tata’s five-star-protected Nexon. The fourth was Mahindra’s XUV 3OO. However, Kia’s Sonet has been the number one seller in the segment for the first month in a row.

The company had sold 9266 units in September, the same month it was launched in India. Vitara Brezza, which had been number one in the segment for months, came in second with 9153 units. Hyundai Venue, which was earlier second, is in third place with 8469 units. This time it was fourth, up from third in August. The Nexon sold 6007 units in September. Mahindra XUV 300 is in fifth place. 3700 units of XUV 300 were sold. Meanwhile, the Ford EcoSport, once one of the most popular vehicles in the segment, is now ranked sixth. The EcoSport sold 3558 units in September. The Honda WRV is seventh with 1124 units.

The Sonet got off to a great start, beating all rivals in its first month of release. The Sonet comes with three engine options (petrol, diesel, turbo) and three modern automatic options (IMT, DCT and torque converter). Tata Nexon has seen the biggest jump in sales in the last one year. Nexon has achieved 111 percent sales growth in one year. A total of 41,277 sub-SUVs were sold in the country in September.
