Sujata Mohan is the Malayalee’s favorite singer; Sujata Mohan’s voice is amazing. Sujatha’s melodious voice and songs have a large fan base not only in Malayalam but also in Tamil Nadu. Sujatha has been singing in Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi for more than forty years. That happiness and satisfaction is reflected not only in the world of song but also in life. Like Sujata’s song, family life is tender and soulful. In an earlier interview, Sujata and Mohan talked about their marriage and life after marriage.
Mohan met Sujata for the first time at the age of seven. Mohan was 19 years old then. Mohan himself says that Sujata was a small child and how that child who called him uncle became his life partner. Mohan and Sujatha say that Yesudas and Chembai Swami have a big role in it. Mohan and his family have a great relationship with Chembai Swami’s family. Chembai Swami stays at Mohan’s house when he comes to the concert. So when he came to a concert, Mohan also went with Chembai Swami. Yesudas was also present at that function.
Yesudas introduced Chembai Swami and Mohan to the seven-year-old girl who used to sing in Yesudas’ plays. That’s when he met Sujata for the first time. Mohan remembers that after singing on stage that day, Sujatha did not go to her mother but came to him. Mohan also remembers that the little girl said to her mother from behind Mohan the next day when she was worshiping at the Guruvayur temple. Later they used to meet each other at many venues. Mohan says that there was no love and Sujatha is not old enough to fall in love.
Chembai Swami once asked Yesudas, ‘Why don’t you consider the girl who sings with you for Mohan’? As a proposal. Yesudas says if she is not a little girl. Chembai Swami’s reply was, ‘What is it, she will grow up’. And so the deliberation took place. When the family inquired, there was no family problem.
Marriage is fixed when Sujata is seventeen years old. He waited a year and a half after the engagement because the law did not allow marriage before the age of eighteen. He got married when she was eighteen and a half years old. At the time of marriage, Sujata was completing her pre-degree. After that, she took three years to complete her degree.
Sujata wanted to stop singing and live as a family after marriage. But it was Mohan and his family who forced her to sing again. Music means so much to Mohan and his family. But a small break happened in her career. It is during pregnancy. She was two times pregnant and had an abortion. That was a big tragedy that happened in her life. She got mentally depressed. Anyway, Sujata is currently active in her career. Now Sujata, Mohan, daughter Swetha, and the family living a happy life, and this family is moving forward.
