Ponram, who rose to prominence with a pair of hit films starring Sivakarthikeyan, surprised moviegoers when he announced a collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi. The film was billed as a cop drama and was titled DSP. Anukreethy VAS, a popular model, was cast as the film’s female lead.

The film, which was released in theatres on December 2, received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. It centers on a cop who clashes with a feared goon in Dindigul. The rest of the story revolves around how they fight it out.

The movie’s poor box office performance was attributed to its poor screenplay, formulaic plot, and lack of interesting character design. Though there were decent expectations surrounding the movie, the film’s failure didn’t come as a surprise for many.

Its promotional videos were unappealing, and it had little to offer cinephiles in terms of attracting them to theatres. The film’s pre-release event, on the other hand, drew attention due to the presence of Kamal Haasan. The melody, Nalla Irumaa, among a few songs composed by Imman, was possibly the only positive aspect that enticed moviegoers to watch DSP.

The project is now preparing for its digital debut. DSP, produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, will be released on Netflix on December 30. An official announcement will be made soon. The film featured notable performances by Prabhakar, Pugazh, Ilavarasu, and Gnanasammandhan, among others.

Stunt sequences for the film were choreographed by Dinesh Subbarayan, with cinematography by Venkatesh S and Dinesh Krishnan B. The celebration of success of the film on its second day was criticized heavily on social media.
