Today sees the release of Mani Ratnam’s long-awaited historical drama Ponniyin Selvan, which has been widely anticipated. The film, which is based on the same-named novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, was released in 1974 and stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi. As you may be aware, Mani Ratnam put off making Ponniyin Selvan, which he refers to as his “dream project,” for more than three decades. Prior to the film’s debut, Trisha Krishnan praised her director on her official Instagram account.

Trisha, who plays the role of Ilaya Piratti Kundavai Devi in Ponniyin Selvan, posted a BTS picture with Mani Ratnam and thanked him for the opportunity. “Kundavai and her maker. Thank you Mani sir for it all. See you in the theatres. 30.9.2022,” reads the gorgeous actress’s post. Trisha Krishnan and the film’s director Mani Ratnam may be seen posing for photos at the scene in the first image. In the photograph, she is wearing a maroon dress and sporting Kundavai’s distinctive high bun. The actress added yet another image of Kundavai, who is dressed in white silk.

Unknown to the general public, Kundavai Devi, a character played by Trisha Krishnan in Ponniyin Selvan, is regarded as one of the most powerful women in Tamil literature. The Chozha princess is characterized as a person of remarkable knowledge and bravery. She is the sister of Aditya Karikalan and Arunmozhi Varman, alias Ponniyin Selvan.

Chiyaan Vikram will play Aditya Karikalan, the weak crown prince, in the Ponniyin Selvan star cast. As Arunmozhi Varman, the young prince who displays desires and different life, Jayam Ravi plays the part. In contrast, Karthi plays Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, the love interest of Kundavai and the orphaned prince of the Vana clan. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is making her comeback to Tamil cinema, by playing a double role as the lead antagonist Nandini and Mandakini.
