The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order banning the Kantara movie featuring Varaharupam. The Supreme Court has said that such instructions are not necessary while granting bail in copyright infringement cases. The film’s producer and actor Rishabh Shetty, the defendants in the case, approached the Supreme Court seeking relaxation in the bail conditions, including the screening of Kantara featuring the image of Varaha.

Now the Supreme Court has quashed the ban on the film in the fifth paragraph of the High Court judgment. There is no relaxation on the condition that the accused film producer and director Rishabh Shetty should appear before the investigating officer on February 12 and 13 between 10 am and 1 am. The Supreme Court also says that an investigation can be conducted.

The High Court had said that the ban on the film was imposed on those who came to an interim judgment or judgment in the case filed by Mathrubhumi and Thaikudam Bridge, who composed the song ‘Navarasam’, in a copyright infringement case. This is why the people associated with Kantara got a stay from the Supreme Court.
