Supreme Court Halts Bengal Government’s Ban On The Kerala Story Screening

The Supreme Court has stayed the order of the Bengal government which stopped the screening of The Kerala Story. The court also ordered that security should be provided to the theaters if the film is screened in Bengal. The court has also decided to hear the pleas to cancel the censor certificate after the summer break. The court has directed that two disclaimers should be included in the film. There is no official record that 32,000 women were taken to Syria and converted. The court has suggested that the film is fiction.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stayed the order. Earlier, the court had asked if the film is being screened elsewhere in the country, what is the problem only in Bengal? Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Bengal government, informed the court that there is an intelligence report that there is a possibility of conflict if the film is screened, but the court did not agree with this. The screening of the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ was banned in Bengal on the grounds that it was a twisted story. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Kerala Story will be banned after allegations were made that the BJP is funding anti-Bengal films like Kashmir Files.
