After a few fans affirmed clinical carelessness, Dr. Ramana Rao – the family specialist for late Kannada famous Puneeth Rajkumar—has been given police assurance, after the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) looked for security for Dr. Rao and other clinical experts who were engaged with the treatment of the late entertainer. Dr. Rao has been their family physician for over three decades and had personally attended to the late Kannada actor Rajkumar until his death in April 2006.

“We strongly oppose attempts by the public to point fingers at the treating physicians, especially Dr. Ramana Rao, who did his best,” PHANA president Dr. Prasanna wrote in a letter which was addressed to the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
In the letter, he additionally expressed that few online media stages were running bogus accounts asserting “lack of care by the medical professionals”.

Dr. Rao is also a Padma Shree awardee and has been conducting free clinics every Sunday at his village T Begur, 45 km from Bengaluru, for 48 years. “Appu and Ashwini had visited the clinic once. We offered them lunch separately, but both refused and instead, sat down with the patients for a sambar-rice meal. Humility was ingrained in Appu. I still can’t come to terms that he is gone. It is like losing a son,” mourned the physician.
