Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan 2 bagged the best collection from Kerala on its first day. The film collected 2.82 crores from Kerala on its release day. It is estimated that Ponniyin Selvan earned more than 20 crores from Tamil Nadu alone. The film earned an opening of over $1.5 million in the US. Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Rahman, Prabhu, Jayaram, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Babu Anerani, Riyaz Khan, Lal, Ashwin Kakumanu, Riyaz Khan, Shobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Chitra Jaya etc. Many prominent stars are lined up together in Mani Ratnam’s frame through Ponniyin Selvan.
Kerala is a state that has a huge fan following even before foreign language films. Like Malayalam films, Tamil films are also accepted here. If films of rare stars like Allu Arjun were previously accepted here from Telugu, the Baahubali franchise changed that. With the advent of KGF, Kannada films also have an audience here.
