There is hardly a film in Bollywood, let alone in Indian cinema in recent times, that has generated as much pre-release hype as ShahRukhKhan‘s Pathaan. After a gap of four years, the main attraction of the film was that Shahrukh’s film is coming out. But the response to the film is surprising even the trade analysts from the first day. The momentum that started with good word-of-mouth publicity on the day of its release is still continuing at the box office.
The film hit the theaters on the eve of Republic Day and got a five-day extended weekend. The film collected 542 crores from the global box office in those days! Now entering its second weekend of release, the film is breaking many collection records. Pathaan has topped Bollywood’s all-time Indian collection on its second Saturday of release.
The collection of the Hindi version alone in India is 364.50 crores. 378.15 crores if Tamil and Telugu versions are added. Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that the film has now overtaken Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which is currently at number one. Meanwhile, Pathaan is third in the all-time winning list of Hindi films. The Hindi versions of two South Indian films occupy the top two positions on the list. Baahubali 2 and KGF 2 occupy the top two positions respectively.
