Directed by Rajeev Ravi, the historical drama movie Thuramukham is going OTT with Nivin Pauly in the lead role. The streaming of the film will start on April 28 through Sony Live, a leading platform. This film hit theaters on March 10. The main theme of the film is the Chapa labor division system that existed in Kochi till 1962 and the struggle of the workers to end it. Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair, Manikanthan Achari, Nimisha Sajayan, Poornima Indrajith, Darshana Rajendran, and others are playing the main characters. The story begins in the 1920s when the new Kochi port was being built. Many people from different parts of the country gather in front of the offices of labor contractors in search of work. A time when workers fought each other for the metal tokens thrown by contractors and builders, to get jobs for an earlier day.
As the story moves into the 1940s and 50s, the overgrown Kochi port becomes the breeding ground of a mafia consisting of contractors, capitalists, and union leaders who side with them. A time when workers have to fight for their right to work and live with dignity. Port is the story of the survival of a family and a nation going through this tumultuous period. Port visualizes the story of two generations torn between good and evil, tragedy and heroic resistance, and hope and despair. The film came with pre-release hype but was not noticed enough in the theatrical release.
