The much awaited 68th National Film Awards took place in Delhi today. 3 films from Tamil have won a total of 10 National Awards. President Draupadi Murmu attended the function and presented awards to the screen artists. The movie Surarai Pototu, released in Suriya’s role, won a total of 5 awards. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Surarai Pothu is based on the life story of Air Deccan founder Gopinath. Suriya who acted in the film won the best actor award and Aparna Balamurali won the best actress award. 3 awards were given to the movie ‘Sivaranjani and some more women’ directed by Vasant with the background of female slavery. Sivaranjani and some other women were awarded the best Tamil language film. He also won the Srikar Prasad Award for Best Editing. Also, Lakshmi, who gained attention for playing an important role, also bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award. It is noteworthy that the film was released directly on Sony OTT. 2 awards were given to the film ‘Mandela’ in which Yogi Babu played the hero of the political satire. The film’s director Madhoni Ashwin bagged the award for Best Script and Best Debut Director.

‘Mandela’ satirically criticized the rhetoric of two groups, forgetting caste for the sake of a single vote.
