In his decades-long cinematic career, the late great director IV Sasi frequently brought up feminism and women’s empowerment issues. He earned a name for himself in Malayalam films from the 1970s through the 1990s and has frequently been called a path-breaker. On October 24, 2017, he passed away, but Kerala International Film Festival has chosen to honor his legacy. At this time, the festival’s Sasi-honoring emblem was unveiled. Ranjith Balakrishnan, the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, introduced this logo. Ranjith handed over this logo to producer A.V. Anoop.
This would no doubt gratify Sasi’s supporters, who are grateful to the filmmaker for elevating renowned stars like Mohanlal and Mammootty. His films received recognition for introducing a wide range of daring subjects to the silver screen. His films such as Avalude Ravukal, Angadi, Aaroodam, and others say volumes about Sasi’s progressive perspective. Avalude Ravukal stands out among these films since it was the first Malayalam film to receive an A rating. The story of Raji, a teenage sex worker who strives mightily to care for her younger brother, is told in Avalude Ravukal. Avalude Ravukal not only discussed the crucial topic but also played a crucial role in introducing the actress Seema. Seema was one of the most popular actresses and eventually tied the nuptial knot with Sasi two years after Avalude Ravukal’s release.
Sasi was always praised for his meticulous attention to every aspect of movies and for casting the ideal performers in certain roles. He selected compelling tales for movies, which were consistently praised by moviegoers. When Prem Nazir and Madhu were the biggest mainstays, he cast performers like Vincent, Soman, Sukumaran, Ravikumar, Jayan, and a young Kamal Haasan in major roles. After producing a large number of Malayalam movies, he also directed some popular films in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
