Rajinikanth’s Baba, which debuted on August 15, 2002, is currently slated for a re-release, 20 years after its initial release. Suresh Krissna, who had previously directed the Superstar in the hit movies Annamalai, Veera, and the legendary Baashha, was the film’s director.
The film’s female lead was played by Manisha Koirala, and the supporting cast included Goundamani, Sujatha, MN Nambiar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sayaji Shinde, Sangavi, and Karunaas.

The music for this movie was written by AR Rahman. The films plot centres around Rajinikanth’s carefree atheist character receiving seven wishes from Mahaavatar Babaji (actually one of Rajini’s spiritual mentors), and how this influences him to enter politics.

“The film is now gearing up for a new screening again, with a new look, that has been re-edited from a completely new angle. Not only that, every frame is digitally enhanced with color grading as per this modern technology, (sic)” mentions the actor’s PR in a press release. “All the songs of the film, which are full of scintillating music by AR Rahman like ‘Maya Maya’, ‘Shakti Kodu’, have been remixed and changed to Dolby Mix sound system,’ it adds.

Baba was seen as the Superstar’s message to his followers at the time of its release regarding his then-most-anticipated political entry (after years of waiting, the actor confirmed he will not be entering politics in 2020). Even children were mesmerized by the Baba Mudra, which the Superstar frequently displays in this movie, and it is still regarded as a distinctive emblem for him.

The movie, which had sky-high anticipation going into its release, is now regarded as one of the few Rajini films that performed poorly at the box office. In order to make up for their loss, Superstar actually refunded the money received from distributors. Conflicts also resulted from the movie’s smoking sequences, which caused controversy between Rajini fans and workers of the political party Pattali Makkal Katchi.
