Rajinikanth’s Annadha directed by Siva did not get the expected success. After this, it was announced that Rajinikanth Nelson will act in Dilipkumar’s direction.

But after the treatment, his voice was in poor condition and he was told that there was no chance of him acting again.
In an interview given by Harish Roy, who is slowly recovering from cancer, to a YouTube channel, he said that he got an opportunity to act in Jailer and director Nelson Dilip Kumar contacted him and asked him to send a video through his mobile phone. Later, Jailer also confirmed to act in the film. He also said that he is excited to act with both Rajinikanth and Shivrajkumar in Jailer.
