Jyotika and Prithviraj starrer Mozhi completes 15 years

Mozhi, a melodic rom-com, written and helmed by Radha Mohan, hit screens on February 2007. The film had Jyotika, Prithviraj, Prakash Raj, and Swarnamalya as the lead star cast alongwith Brahmanandam and MS Bhaskar assuming major parts. While Vidyasagar scored the music for the film, the cinematography was by KV Guhan and editing by Kasi Viswanathan.

Radha Mohan composed the content keeping in mind Jyotika It is said that the director composed the personality of Archana, a hearing and speech impaired woman, in view of Jyotika. He had likewise expressed in an interview that the character was enlivened by a comparative individual who lived in the directors’ area. Swarnamalya came on board as Jyotika’s friend in the film, in the wake of hearing that the plot had rousing female characters. Mozhi was also  premiered at the non-prize section of the 2007 Cannes Festival. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Maatarani Mounaidhi and opened to positive reviews and Jyotika was shortlisted for the Best Actress class in the National Awards. However she didn’t win the award, her performance in the film was very much appreciated. The song Kaatrin Mozhi inspired a film of the same name, which was also directed by Radha Mohan and featured Jyotika in the lead.

The song Kannal Pesum Penne was a redo version of his hit Malayalam number ‘Elamankanniloode… I Am Thinking of You’ from the Malayalam film Satyam Shivam Sundaram. The writer additionally utilized a section of Harry Belafonte’s famous Jewish society melody Hava Nagila in the film. The other melodies in the collection, be it Kaatrin Mozhi or Sevvanam Selai Katti, were liked by the crowds.
