Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ featuring Alia Bhatt will be released in theaters on February 25. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is inspired by the life of Gangubai Kothewali, ‘madam’ of a brothel in Mumbai’s Kamathipura, and is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai’.
The film is good to go to have its eagerly awaited world debut at the renowned 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. This will be Alia’s first project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The film, starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role, will finally release in theatres on February 25. The film’s release date has been shifted several times since March 2020 due to the pandemic and the lockdowns. During the filming, the lead actor Alia Bhatt and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali contracted the virus, which also shifted the release date.
