Fahadh Faasil’s political drama film ‘Malik’ has got official selection for the 51st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2022. ‘Malik’ was chosen alongwith the other Indian movies, for example, ‘Adh Chanani Raat’ directed by Gurvinder Singh and ‘The Cloud Messenger ‘ directed by Rahat Mahajan. The 51st release of the Rotterdam International Film Festival will occur from January 26 to February 6 in the Netherlands. The movie celebration opens with the movie ‘Please Baby Please’ directed by the American filmmaker Amanda Kramer.
Other Malayalam films chosen for the Rotterdam International Film Festival are ‘Thuramukham‘, ‘Chavittu’, and ‘Prappeda’. The movie ‘Thuramukham’ is directed by the most famous director Rajeev Ravi and has the entertainer Nivin Pauly playing a significant lead in the film and the story is set in 1940s Kerala. The movie ‘Prappeda’ is directed by Krishnendu Kalesh and ‘Chavittu’ is a film by Sajas Rahman and Shinos Rahman.
The movie ‘Malik‘ was directed by Mahesh Narayanan and the story is set in a little seaside town in Kerala. The film clicked with the audiences due to the magnificent performances of the lead actors Nimisha Sajayan, Fahadh Faasil, Vinay Forrt, and the subject matter. Although ‘Malik’ received several backlashes for hurting a certain community in the society, the film was a humongous success and the songs topped the trending charts. The film revolves around Ali Sulaiman, the godfather in Ramadally, a small town where Muslims and Christians live peacefully side by side. The film follows a predictable trajectory of a good-hearted man, who begins a life of crime to help people of his community who have been neglected by the men in power.
But, Mahesh’s experiment with a variety of shots, and editing techniques, clear screenplay and notable performances, including from Fahadh Faasil and Nimisha Sajayan, gives it an epic status.
