#BoycottLigermovie is now trending on Twitter

Recently, the boycott of Bollywood movies has become a popular trend on Twitter. The most recent movie to experience the wrath of trolls is Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s Liger, which follows Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Raksha Bandhan starring Akshay Kumar, and Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan. On August 25, the Puri Jagganadh-directed movie is scheduled to hit theatres. Vijay Deverakonda’s comments about Laal Singh Chaddha are the main reason why social media trolls are calling for a movie boycott.

For those who are unaware, the actor recently stood out in favor of Aamir Khan and against the boycotting mentality. Because Karan Johar is supporting the movie, online users are also criticizing it. The actor is receiving criticism for raising his feet while attending an event.

One user wrote, “dont show arrogance. Be humble and respect audience.” Another user added, “I support #BoycottLigerMovie yes let me reiterate that I support Boycott of #Liger movie because of the direct and indirect connection of people from the Bollywood like Karan Johar, Salman Khan and Ananya Pandey. Also, because I support #BoycottBollywood (forever and everywhere).”

In the meantime, boycott culture also affected the upcoming movie Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. A portion of the internet noted that Ranbir and Aamir Khan collaborated on the film PK, which some claim offended Hindus’ religious sensibilities.

For his previous comments on intolerance in India, Aamir Khan has received a great deal of criticism on social media. Not only him but even his most recent movie, Laal Singh Chaddha, was harassed online. In addition, after Hrithik Roshan praised the movie Laal Singh Chaddha while watching it in theatres, trolls called for a boycott of Vikram Vedha.
