Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan, has finally arrived in theatres and is being well received by both the public and reviewers. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya all have significant roles in the movie. Forrest Gump, a critically acclaimed film starring Tom Hanks, was remade in Hindi as Laal Singh Chaddha. Days after the movie’s debut, The Academy’s social media account published a small video showing how Laal Singh Chaddha successfully reproduced the magic that Forrest Gump previously generated on the screen. The video had Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan from Advait Chandan’s film in addition to certain moments from the original film.

“Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth’s sweeping story of a man who changes the world with simple kindness receives an Indian adaptation in Advait Chandan and Atul Kulkarni’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ starring Aamir Khan in the title role made famous by Tom Hanks (sic),” the caption of the video read.

Forrest Gump, a 1994 movie, won six of the 13 Oscar nominations that it received. Laal Singh Chaddha, meanwhile, was able to make Rs 12 crore on its first day of release. Trade expert Taran Adarsh released the box office collection on Friday. He tweeted, “#LaalSinghChaddha is shockingly low on Day 1… The dull start has added to the woes of an ailing industry… Better at premium multiplexes, but mass circuits are weak… Needs to score big numbers from Fri-Sun to salvage the situation… Thu ₹ 12 cr. #India biz. *ALL* VERSIONS.”

The fundamental themes of Laal Singh Chaddha are love and the desire to be loved. In these fractious times, when narratives are being constructed on hatred rather than creating a world of peace, harmony, and togetherness, it is more important than ever to understand its message of forgiveness and compassion.
