Aaraattu Movie was one of the recent films that came with huge hype and failed to gain audience acceptance. The movie is directed by B. Unnikrishnan and has Mohanlal as the lead role in Udayakrishna’s screenplay. It was also the most trolled Mohanlal film in recent times. Now B. Unnikrishnan is saying that they too have made a mistake as the creators of Aaraattu. In an interview given to Film Companion South, B. Unnikrishnan evaluates Aaraattu in detail.

“Aaraattu was not a film in my zone. Udayan was playing the role of Neyyatinkara Gopan. He asked me if this character is not fun and if I should not work on it. I wanted to do a full-length spoof. I thought it would be great fun if Lal sir spoofed the movies that made him a star. If you go and tell this to another actor, they probably won’t agree. I asked him can we do this bro. The answer was why not”, says B Unnikrishnan.

“But the mistake we made was not carrying that spoof element throughout the film. We went to a place where we didn’t want to in the second half. The track itself was not right. Apart from Lal sir, the idea of this film has been discussed with many people. But they all cast doubt on the whole spoof idea. Many asked whether people would accept Lal sir if it was a complete spoof while doing a heavy thing. Then we got confused. Many of those spoofs don’t work. The audience saw it as just references. The character asks if there are any such problems here, he is the one who conducts the festivals which have been stalled for ages. It should be remembered that Mohanlal is asking that question. He even said the dialogue in Mammooka’s movie King. That spoof should have carried throughout the track. But people felt it was childish to say that Neyyatinkara Gopan was an agent.
