Samantha starrer Shakunthalam had a good start at the box office. According to reports, the film, which was made on a budget of 50 crores, has yet to earn even 10 crores. When the first three-day collection report came out, the film has collected Rs 6.85 crore. The film, which hit the theaters on April 14, has collected 4.85 crores in the first two days, according to reports. The film did not perform well on its third day, Sunday. Shakunthalam is a rare case of a big-budget Telugu film not even making double-digit collections in its opening weekend.
Shakunthalam is a film based on Abhijnana Sakunthalam, the love story of Shakuntala Dushyantha from the Mahabharata. The film was also released in 3D. Dev Mohan, who is famous for Sufi Yum Sujatham, will play the role of Samantha Shakuntala. The film is written and directed by Gunasekhar. Aditi Balan, Mohan Babu, Sachin Khedekar Kabir Bedi, Madhubala, Gauthami, Ananya Nagalla, and Jishu Sengupta also star in the film. Superstar Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha also plays an important role in the film. Mani Sharma is the music director.
