A behind-the-scenes snapshot of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini from Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selven has surfaced on social media as moviegoers await the release of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selven. In her royal princess persona, the diva exudes elegance in a silk saree and heavy gold jewelry. This magnum work is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name, published in 1955. The historical drama, produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, will release in theatres on September 30th of this year.

The first instalment of a two-part series will feature an ensemble cast that includes Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi as Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai, and Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, as well as Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Leksshmi in supporting roles.

Chola Chola, the project’s second tune, was released a few days ago by the creators. The song, composed by Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman, is a tribute to Chiyaan Vikram’s character Aditya Karikalan. It also tells the story of his love for Nandini, aka Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

After the release of Ponniyin Selven’s teaser, a lawyer called Selvan served Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan VikramĀ with a court notice. According to his petition, Chiyaan Vikram’s character Aditya Karikalan had a tilak on his forehead in the movie poster but not in the teaser, and hence the Cholas could be misrepresented in the magnum opus. The complainant has also requested that the defendant be subjected to a social screening. The suit has also requested a social screening of the film prior to its theatrical distribution in order to ensure that all historical facts are appropriately reflected in the film.
