Many Malayalam films have achieved translingual acceptance through OTT releases in recent years. But recently, Malayalam cinema has not been able to achieve box office success in other states through foreign language versions like other South Indian language films. But now there are first indications that it may be possible for 2018, which broke collection records in Malayalam. The Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions of the film were released yesterday. The film has been released in North India along with Andhra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu with improved screen count. Reports say that among these, the Telugu version has received the best response. According to the distributors, the Telugu version collected 1.01 crores on the day of release. This is a rare achievement for a Malayalam film. Tovino Thomas, Aparna Balamurali, Jude Anthony Joseph, Naran, and Sudheesh came to participate in the Telugu version’s success and press conference held in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the film has earned more than 150 crores from the global box office. 2018 is also the first 150 crore club film from Malayalam cinema. The achievement of the film is surpassing Pulimurugan. The film is directed by Jude Anthony Joseph and is set against the backdrop of the floods in Kerala. The movie stars Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, Naran, Lal, Vineeth Srinivasan, Sudheesh, Aju Varghese, Aparna Balamurali, Tanvi Ram, Shivada, Gautami Nair, Siddique, and others.
