Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor’s triumphant return to the big screen, was anticipated to be a smashing success. After a four-year absence, the actor made a comeback to the silver screen in this action drama about a tribe striving for independence while being held captive. Shamshera, however, has left us all quite disillusioned. Since it opened in theatres on July 22, it has performed middlingly at the box office. The movie is headed for a dismal future if further declines in ticket sales follow a lackluster first-weekend haul. In actuality, this is Ranbir Kapoor’s ninth career disaster movie.

Shamshera began its journey on Day 1 with an opening of Rs. 10.25 crore. The opening is significantly lower than what the industry anticipated. Reports state that on Day 7, the movie barely made Rs 1.80 crore. As a result, Shamshera’s total box office earnings currently stand at Rs 41.77 crore. Shamshera only made Rs 31 crore over its first weekend, and it appears that its lifetime earnings will be in the range of Rs 65–75 crore. On Thursday, July 28, Shamshera had an overall Hindi occupancy of 7.22%. With 8.67%, it had the most evening performances.

Ranbir Kapoor had six more movies before Shamshera that failed to do well at the box office. His 2007 movie Saawariya similarly had a terrible box office performance. Despite having a budget of Rs 45 crore, the movie only made Rs 29.10 crore. The actor’s 2013 movie Besharam, which had an 83 crore rupee budget, made 77.10 crore rupees instead. Roy (2015) too performed poorly, earning only Rs. 47.68 crores. It had an overall budget of Rs. 50 crore.

Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor, was released in the same year. The movie did horribly at the box office. The movie, which had a 118 crore rupee budget, reportedly only made 30.36 crore. Tamasha and Jagga Jasoos, both starring Ranbir, were box office duds with lifetime receipts of Rs 68 crore and Rs 69.31 crore, respectively.
