Kaala Movie Review
After so much wait from fans and film lovers, Super Rajnikanth starrer movie Kaala has been released today all over the world. This mass action movie has been written and directed by Pa Renjith who had earlier given us films like Madras and Kabali. Dhanush’s Wunderbar films had produced this movie and it has been distributed all over my Lyca Productions. In Kerala, Mini Studio had distributed this film. The songs and trailer of this flick had received fabulous attention from Social Media and that also made this flick, a much-anticipated one.
The plot of the movie revolves around the title character named Karikaalan who is popularly known as Kaala. This flick is all about the life of Nellai/ Tirunelveli based Tamils who live in large number in Mumbai. Karikalan is their leader and protector. He is there for them in every situation. The film tells us about the ones who come against him and his community and it shows us how he resolves those issues. Harinath Desai is one such character that comes against Karikalan.
We have to admit that Pa Renjith is one director who tries to use the actor Rajnikanth more than the star. He showed it to us through his previous flick Kabali and once again he has done that through Kaala. But it does not mean the film lacks mass elements or the mass appeal of Rajnikanth. Pa Renjith had blended mass and class elements in the screenplay perfectly and that is the highlight of this movie. The characterization has been fabulous and the way he presented the plot through emotionally deep situations deserves applause as well. Dialogues were sharp and had packed a punch in it. Action blocks were terrific too in this movie. The interval block has been superb and so as the climax. The film also has a relevant subject which tells us about land mafia.
Once again, the Super Star had stolen the show with his Charisma and mass appeal. He looked terrific in Salt and pepper style and once again his dialogue delivery has been impeccable. The way he played Kaala has made it one of the best performances in his whole career as well. Nana Patekar has been magnificent as usual and his performance is one of the high points of this movie. Others like Samuthirakkani, Huma Qureshi, Sampath Raj, Aruldos, Eeshwari Rao, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Aravind Aakash, Sayaji Shinde, Ravi Kale, Pankaj Tripathi, Sakshi Agarwal etc too did a great job in it. Eeshwari Rao deserves special mention and so as Huma Qureshi for their matured performance.
DOP from G Murali has been fabulous as his frames created the perfect atmosphere to present this story. Music was scored by Santhosh Narayanan and the songs were super hits even before the release of the movie. The background scoring has been fantastic. Sreekar Prasad had edited the flick and it made the film to move forward in pace which never made the audience yawn inside the cinema hall.
In Total, Kala is a mass and class entertainer with a certain quality in its making and storytelling. It will give you everything that you expect from a Rajnikanth movie and maybe more. We can call it a Rajinikanth show and a Pa Renjith film at the same time.
